Toshiba - M200 Windows to manage docked modes

Toshiba

Hi

I think it’s a bit tricky to explain how to try to solve this. There are 2 different ways to make this automatic.
The key to the solution lies in hardware-profiles.
One profile for your internal screen and one for your external.

Either you let Windows handle the profiles or you let Toshiba Mobile Extensions do the job.

The correct choice for you depends very much on your current installation and how you want your installation to be. If you have a Toshiba factory image installed, then I suppose you would go for the Toshiba Mobile Extensions. If You built your platform yourself then I guess you’d prefer Windows handling the profiles.

The Toshiba-way:
You need at least Toshiba Common Modules and Toshiba Mobile extensions to get this to work.
I assume that theese packages are already installed.
You need to check on a special BIOS flag that the correct mode of docking recognition is set. To do that enter the directory on your harddrive that holds the Toshiba Mobile Extensions (normally C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TME3)
Find the program called DockMode.exe and start it by doubleclicking on it. First GET the mode to see that all is according schedule. You probably get a status called TME3 mode. Now SET it to TME3 mode. The application asks you to restart. Do that.
When up and running again, enter the control panel and open the Toshiba Mobile Extensions aplet.
Click on the Display change Service tab and enable it by putting a checkmark Display change service.
Now set up the correct resolution for the current profile. Shut down and change to docked or undocked (the opposite of what you just were working in) and set up the correct resolution also for this profile.
Now you should have the profiles set up and also the correct resolution for them. You should also be able to hotdock / hotundock and get the correct resolutions.

The Windows-way:
First of all you need to set a special BIOS-flag that enables Windows to recognise the different states (docked, undocked). To be able to set or unset this flag, the Toshiba Common Modules MUST be installed. Next look up your tools & utilities CD and enter the Toshiba Mobile Extensions directory for your Windows language or download the Mobile Extensions package from the web and unpack it to a directory of choice.
Find the file called DockMode.exe and has a strange bent arrow as an Icon. Start it by double-clicking on it. First GET the mode to see that all is according schedule. You should get a status called TME3 mode. Now SET it to OS mode. The application asks you to restart.
Next time you restart Windows docked it should recognise that you are now docked and create a profile called Docked 1 or similar to that. You can verify this by going into System Properties (from Control Panel) and clicking the Hardware tab and then the Hardware Profiles button. There should be at least 1 profile called Docked 1 (or similar to that).
Now set up the screen resolution as required.
Undock, start the PC and set up the screen resolution also for this profile.

Now the automatic switching between the profiles should be smooth and as expected. Should work also when hotdocking and undocking.

Good luck

Tom
